The village has the ruins of an ancient Fort, known as Chikkajala Fort. There are also temple ruins beside the fort. Hoysala king, Vishnuvardhana (1108-1152) constructed the ancient Chennaraya (Chennakeshava) temple in the village.
According to the 2011 Census of India, Chikkajala had a population of 6,154 and a total area of 2.52 km2. Males and females constituted 55.72 per cent and 44.28 per cent respectively of the population. Literacy at that time was 76.97 per cent. People classified as Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes under India's system of positive discrimination accounted for 25.33 per cent and 3.67 per cent respectively of the population.

Korati Srinivasa rao, a famous Kannada novelist, was born on October 19, 1925, in Korati, a village in Hosakote taluk. His father was Sripadarao and his mother was Namagiriamma. Srinivasarao, who completed his early education in Hosakote and Bangalore, obtained his B.A. and B.Com degrees from the University of Mysore and obtained his M.A. from Karnataka University in 1957.
Srinivasarao, who started his career in 1952 as a teacher at the Hosakote Municipal High School, served at various levels as a high school teacher in Gandhinagar, an employee at the Indian Telephone Factory and the accounting offices of Bangalore, as the deputy editor of the Samyukta Karnataka Hubballi edition, as a lecturer in the Kannada department of the Commerce, Arts and Science College of Acharya Pathashala, Bangalore, as a lecturer, a lecturer, and as the vice-principal of the evening college.
Korati Srinivasarao made significant achievements in the creation of historical and social novels. His social novels include Kaannirin Kadalu, Mangala Deepa, Vidyadhara, Grihini, Miss Lilavati, Mamataya Suli, Ooru Kavalodedaga, Chaitrayatra, Toori Banda Taare etc.

Among Raya's religious works are Sri Tirupati, Sri Madhwacharya, Jayatirtha, Vyasa Raya, Vadiraja, Raghavendra Swamy, Purandaradasa, Sripadaraja etc.
Apart from these, nine historical story collections, several works written for Bharata-Bharati, and a translation of Adimanavaru are among the diverse works of Srinivasa Raya. His novels about Vijayanagara have also been translated into Telugu and are famous.
'Miss Lilavati', which is considered to be one of the important films of Kannada cinema, is based on a novel by Korati Srinivasa Raya. 'Gruhini' is another film based on a novel by him.
Korati Srinivasa Rao has received many honors, including the first prize from the state government for his work Amatya Ratna, a prize from the Culture Department for his work Vyasa Raya, a felicitation at the Krishnadevaraya Vardhanti Rajatotsava held in Penugonde, and a grand felicitation in Bangalore under the Tirumala Tirupati Dasa Sahitya Yojana.
